In every game, there has to be a way to showboat, someway or another there is a
way to show off. The Fake Step is a type of way to show a flashy type of gameplay,
it is not a great tool if your objective is to hit a winning streak, but if you
know how to use it extremely well, it will work in the baiting and mind games
category of strategy. Now the aim of the Fake Step is to start running but
canceling it into either a neutral joystick position or a backwards walk.
Perform it repeatedly and smoothly and your character should run then 1 frame of
a stop then continue running.

Now other than the instructions how to do it, there is a trick to it. When you
run, whilst keeping holding the forward direction, quickly swing the joystick
backwards then forwards again. It may sound easy, but it is quite difficult to
pull off. To know that you've done it correctly, your character should
looking like he's jerking forward with a run then stopping for a very brief
moment, repeat.
Now that you know the basics of how to do it, its best to find out how to use
it. The Fake Step can obviously be used as a fake in tight situations, where an
opponent is turtling and is waiting for your move. Another way to use it is to
intimidate your opponent. But, you must know how to cancel it into something
else. A good follow-up from the Fake Step is an Evade Roll, a Hyper Hop or even a
move.
